ELP mis-pressing

Posted in Rare Vinyl Records 10 months ago, 1 reply

I was wondering if someone could help me out with something: I recently purchased a used copy of Emerson Lake & Palmer's s/t debut record, and something about it is quite odd. While sides 1 and 2 are labeled as such, the actual record was pressed to contain side 2 on both sides. That is, both sides of the record play the side 2 program with side 1 seemingly haven fallen off the face of the earth. I tried to do some research on my own but came up with no answers; do know if this was a major problem Cotillion Records was having with this title? Have I stumbled onto something rare or did i just waste a few bucks on half of a record?

A few records have had this problem Dan,sometimes the labels are the only problem but a few have had such weird things, mainly the two metal mothers (including the safety copy had been mixed up,and resulted in a few aberrant copies).I don't know how the one in you managed to escape into the outside world(as most mistakes in production are destroyed...)you may have a rare and unique find there.but I cannot be sure of the value of the unit since the uniqueness of your item is rooted in an industrial manufacturing error...it is still a good idea to hold on to it and buy yourself a new copy, just so you can enjoy the song" knife edge" great to have two sides worth of "lucky man" though Dan.....
